Universitas Udayana, Bali Government, and JXTG to Initiate a Collaboration in OTEC

Universitas Udayana (Udayana) Smart City Research Center and Bali Government were introduced to Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion, or OTEC, as a clean and renewable energy alternative through a presentation by Mr. Fumihiro Nakayama from the Energy Attaché of Embassy of Japan in Jakarta and JXTG Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation Manager Kojiro Nakagawa, Ph.D and his staff Keiichi Koseki, Ph.D. The Japanese representatives received warm welcome from officials of the Department of Labor, Energy, and Mineral Reseources, officials of the Department of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and Universitas Udayana's Vice Rector for the Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Gde Antara, M.Eng and the Institute of Research and Community Service staff.
 
 
This presentation took place at Nusa Room of the Udayana Rectorate in Bukit Jimbaran Campus, on Friday, October 11, 2019.  According to Mr. Kojiro Nakagawa Ph.D, OTEC has a great potential to be applied in Indonesia because it is environmentally friendly. Supporting this initiative, Ida Bagus Setiawan as Bali's Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources Department stated that OTEC has been in line with the Bali Government's current vision to implement clean energy. With this visit, Universitas Udayana as CCR SMART CITY's partner, Bali Government, and JXTG Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation are set to establish a fruitful collaboration, which is expected to be realized in 2020.
